Course details

This one-day course will explore the application of neurodynamic principles to modern manual therapy practice. The mobilisation of the nervous system is an integral part of manual medicine. It’s uses extend from assessment techniques, such as the Straight Leg Raise (SLR) test, to the treatment of mononeuropathies of mechanical aetiology. Starting from a review of the relevant literature in the fields of fascial sciences and neurobiomechanics, the course will focus on the practical applications of this theoretical framework in everyday practice. Although the course is predominantly practical, there will be a strong focus on developing a critical understanding of the uses of neurodynamics, both in its application to the clinical assessment of the musculoskeletal patient and as an integrated part of conservative treatment in physical medicine.

Course suitability
The course is suitable for osteopaths, physiotherapists, chiropractors and third and fourth year students

Important information
It is suggested that you review neuroanatomy of the upper and lower limbs. 
Please wear suitable clothing to allow movement for the practical teaching.


About the course leader

Francesco Contiero is a physiotherapist and osteopath based in London. Francesco started his career in Italy as a physiotherapist. He has completed a diploma and a postgraduate master's degree in osteopathy. In addition, he has completed an intensive training program in functional biomechanics developed through the Gray Institute and has earned the distinction of Fellow of Applied Functional Science (FAFS).


Francesco was previously a neuroscience and clinical neurology lecturer at the University College of Osteopathy. His academic areas of expertise are neurosciences, sports biomechanics and fascial sciences.
