This exciting CPD is designed for all registered health care professionals with interest in the evolving field of upper limb ultrasound including shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. Physics of ultrasound will be explored alongside professional issues and delegates will have the opportunity to undertake an anatomy refresher session in the pro section with expert Dr Solomon. In the afternoon delegates will have the opportunity to undertake practical ultrasound sessions on models in the Samsung suite exploring shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand scanning.
Seminar aim, objectives & learning outcomes:
- Identify basic ultrasound physics and machine controls that can optimise images in upper limb ultrasound.
- Enable participants to understand the requirements of upper limb ultrasound and identify basic anatomy/pathology that may be encountered.
- Develop an appreciation of the role of upper limb ultrasound
Speakers
Jane Cook, DC, DACBR, MSc APD, MSc US (MSK)
Jane is a Senior Lecturer in Imaging at HSU and has taught undergraduate and post-graduate students for over 30 years. She lectures in Plain film, MRI and ultrasound interpretation and scanning for MSK pathology and trauma. Jane has a particular interest in diagnostic ultrasound of the upper and lower limb and has been part of the Clinical diagnostic team at HSU for the past 18 years.
Solomon Segal Doctor of Medicine; Senior Lecturer of Anatomy
Solomon is a medically trained anatomist and neuroanatomist. He leads the teaching of neuroanatomy and head and neck anatomy at Health Sciences University.
Holly Spencer is a sonographer (diagnostic radiographer) by background, Holly is currently a full-time PhD student at Sheffield Hallam University, exploring the impact and integration of sonographers graduating via direct entry educational pathways. Her passions include workforce development and innovation, education, professional issues, advancing practice, patient communication, patient-centred care, and health promotion. She is a member of the Society of Radiographers’ (SoR) Ultrasound Advisory Group and Insight Editorial Board, a facilitator for the SoR Advancing Practice in Radiography Special Interest Group, a Deputy Editor for the Ultrasound journal, and a reviewer for the Radiography journal.
Lindsay Rowlands is a chartered physiotherapist with a masters in ultrasound specialising in MSK and orthopaedics with 30 years’ experience.
She is co-director of a multidisciplinary clinic in South Oxfordshire where chiropractors, physiotherapists and GPs work together.
Lindsay is passionate about MSK ultrasound and the benefits it brings to accurate diagnosis which supports targeted treatment.
A bit of background information - She used to be a commercial pilot and did some bush flying in Africa and have been in a few music bands and loves to travel.
