Course details

Stepping into self-employment can feel overwhelming for healthcare professionals, with many unsure where to begin or how to build a sustainable and profitable practice. This practical 90-minute session, delivered by Hand on Money – a financial education platform for practitioners and clinic owners, is designed to simplify the process and provide clear, actionable steps to help clinicians confidently transition into self-employment.

Drawing on real-world experience of running a successful private clinic, and grounded in the practical financial education approach of Hand on Money, this session will cover everything from setting up correctly and understanding your finances, to pricing your services, attracting the right patients, and managing the realities of inconsistent income. Attendees will leave with a clear roadmap, practical tools, and a better understanding of what it takes to build and grow a clinic or healthcare business.

As with all Hand on Money sessions, the focus is on clarity, practicality, and giving clinicians the financial confidence they need to make informed decisions in business.

As Director of The Harrison Clinic in Berkshire for over 20 years, she has grown a thriving, annually increasing six-figure clinic whilst being a hands-on mother, balancing leadership, clinical practice, and family life. Melina leads a team of multidisciplinary practitioners and oversees all aspects of the business—finance, compliance, operations, marketing—while continuing to see patients herself, combining clinical insight with real-world business experience.

Melina has also hosted exclusive health retreats in the UK and USA and is a champion ballroom dancer, currently holding multiple international titles.

Jane Greenshields is the co-founder of Hands On Money

Jane qualified as an osteopath from the British School of Osteopathy in 1997 and spent many years working as an associate within established practices. Three years ago, Jane set up her own clinic as a sole trader, gaining first-hand experience of the financial and business realities of running a practice.

Jane’s clinic grew quickly, allowing her to step back into part-time clinical work and dedicate more time to Hands On Money—a platform designed to support self-employed therapists in feeling more confident and in control of their finances and business decisions.

Alongside this, Jane founded CPD Hub, a directory for all CPD courses for manual therapists. Her wider business experience includes launching and running a rehearsal and recording studio and renovating a property in France. These ventures, combined with her clinical background, have shaped a practical, real-world understanding of both self-employment and financial management.
