Details about the course
This CPD seminar provides a clear and practical introduction to the fundamentals of healthcare financing, designed to strengthen financial awareness and decision‑making across healthcare roles. Participants will explore how resources are generated, managed, and allocated within health systems, and how these financial processes directly influence service quality and patient outcomes.
The session covers three core areas:
Understanding Healthcare Financing: introducing key concepts such as revenue generation, pooling, and purchasing, and demonstrating how financial flows impact access and quality of care.
Budgeting in Healthcare: outlining essential budgeting principles, differences between operating and capital budgets, and the practical trade‑offs required when resources are limited.
Contemporary Trends and Value‑for‑Money: examining efficiency, effectiveness, equity, and the financial stewardship responsibilities of both finance and non‑finance managers.
Through discussions, scenarios, and reflective activities, the seminar equips participants with the financial insight needed to contribute confidently to resource allocation decisions and support sustainable, value‑driven healthcare delivery.
Seminar aims:
The aim of this CPD seminar is to equip participants with a foundational understanding of healthcare financing, enabling them to recognise how financial principles, budgeting processes, and value‑for‑money considerations influence decision‑making, service quality, and patient outcomes within healthcare organisations.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the seminar, participants will be able to:
