Course details
When does a patient need to be referred for imaging? This short seminar will cover the basics of requesting imaging as an MSK health professional working in private practice. We’ll talk about the pros and cons of referring patients for scans, how to discuss this in advance with your patient, the importance of having a clear objective when requesting imaging, how to write a good imaging referral, and how to think about the results and share these with your patient.
The seminar will enable participants to:
- Recognize when a referral for imaging may be appropriate.
- Understand the advantages and disadvantages of imaging, including incidental findings.
- Discuss imaging with patients.
- Understand what a good imaging referral includes, and why this is important.
- Have an awareness of different imaging modalities.
- Have an awareness of considerations when choosing a private imaging provider.
- Consider the implications of the imaging findings for patient care.
- Share the findings with your patient appropriately, including putting common and incidental findings into appropriate context
