Course details

Face to face course at the HSU London Campus on Borough High Street- 5 and 6 December 2026- 14 CPD hours

Registration for the course is from 9:00-9.30am and the course runs from 9.30-5.30pm on both days.

Pregnancy induces significant nervous system changes, partly due to hormonal shifts and lack of physical activity, which contribute to altered pain perception, increased disability, and psychosocial challenges. These changes often lead to widespread deep-tissue sensitivity and functional limitations impacting maternal well-being. Our 2-day workshop addresses these issues by combining the latest scientific understanding with hands-on touch techniques and innovative use of the physio-ball to restore movement, reduce pain, and better anticipate childbirth.

Course aims, objectives and learning outcomes

  • Implement trimester-specific therapeutic strategies addressing common pregnancy issues such as lower back pain, sacroiliac pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, nausea, GERD, and constipation.
  • Identify and explain the neurophysiological mechanisms behind pain and sensory changes in pregnant women, including the effects of reduced active movement.
  • Determine when handling should prioritize passive techniques or active interventions, such as Specific Techniques toward patient's active participation and physio-ball exercises, to optimize nervous system regulation and functional recovery.
  • Apply a biopsychosocial approach in clinical care, integrating physical, psychological, and social factors that influence pregnancy-related pain and disability.
  • Demonstrate hands-on touch techniques that safely modulate pain and promote relaxation during pregnancy.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, especially midwives, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
  • Facilitate and teach appropriate breathing techniques for pregnancy and childbirth, emphasizing their benefits and limitations for the mother’s well-being.

This course is suitable for:

PG Dip Pluri-disciplinary approach to Pain UCT 2018

Registered Dc of Osteopathy Cape Town South Africa

Registered osteopath in France

Osteopath D.O C.O.S Paris France

Coming from a French flying doctor Dad and a consciously enquiring Mom, Erwann has been exposed to various concepts of health wellbeing and trans-cultural imprints from a very early age.

Trained and practiced as a physiotherapist in France he then moved to Osteopathy and was drawn to explore the movement world not only through the scope of bodywork, but also in its psychological and social contexts.

His 25 years of experience are backed up by an executive coaching training and a full time postgraduate Diploma on the neurophysiological and multidisciplinary approach to pain both acquired at the University of Cape Town South Africa.

Erwann has extended his training in the field of genomics and has completed PG, Dip in sleep medicine and circadian rhythms in the Nuffield department of clinical neuroscience at Oxford University.

He lectures and works in both in Europe and South Africa with the precision medicine tools applied to chronobiology, sleep, movement, breathing and pain management that he is fortunate to propose for world athletes and leaders.
