Seminar overview

This will be used as part of the approval process, and subsequently to produce the seminar flyer (advertising material) Short paragraph. The Gonstead seminar will introduce the learner to the Gonstead technique. There will be an overview of the Gonstead system and describe the tools in the process that Gonstead used in creating the system. We will cover Gonstead’s five criteria of locating a vertebral subluxation. We will discuss in depth, the specific process of delivering an adjustment in the cervical chair, the chest table and on the pelvic bench. This will cover upper cervical, cervical, thoracic, lumbar, pelvic and sacral analysis and adjustments.

Seminar Aims, Objectives & Learning outcomes:

• Gonstead History
• VSC analysis with Gonstead Criteria
• Pelvic Bench adjustment push and pull (Lumbar and Pelvis)
• Knee Chest adjustment (Full spine with alternate contacts)
• Cervical Chair ( Upper cervical, C2-T3)
• Gonstead biomechanics emphasis on HVLA, short lever, without spinal rotation

Matt Betterton D.C.

Dr. Betterton began lecturing with the Gonstead Seminar in 2009 and was invited to join the seminar staff. His presentations focus on the precise application of Gonstead Technique as it was taught directly by Dr. Clarence Gonstead himself.

The accurate application of the technique has been passed down through generations of Gonstead doctors — from Dr. Clarence Gonstead to Dr. Alex Cox, then to Dr. John Cox, and ultimately to Dr. Betterton. This lineage has helped preserve the authenticity, precision, and philosophy of the Gonstead System.

In addition to technique instruction, Dr. Betterton regularly lectures on Gonstead history, case management, X-ray analysis, and practice development. In 2017, he began presenting internationally and has since taught throughout the United States as well as in Norway, England, Australia, and France.

In 2025, Dr. Betterton became a co-owner of the Gonstead Seminar, continuing his commitment to advancing and preserving the Gonstead System for future generations of chiropractors.

Dr Po D.C.

Dr. Po specializes in the Gonstead System of Chiropractic, a method widely recognized as the gold standard in chiropractic care due to its precision and consistent clinical results. He achieved Diplomat status in 1987 and was awarded Fellow status in 1997, reflecting his advanced expertise and dedication to the field.

In 1999, Dr. Po was invited by his mentor, Dr. Alex W. Cox, to join Gonstead Seminars as an instructor. His teaching engagements have taken him across the United States and internationally, including Australia, Japan, England, Spain, Denmark, Norway, France, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and many other countries seeking advanced Gonstead training.
